
Keeping Your Class 100 Cleanroom Actually Clean
If you’re running a Class 100 cleanroom, you know the drill. One tiny speck of dust or a single metallic flake is enough to ruin everything. When it comes to semiconductor heating, the heating element is usually where the trouble starts. It’s often the biggest source of contamination in the whole setup. We figured out a way to stop that. By pairing high-purity quartz infrared lamps with specialized Teflon (PTFE) wiring, we’ve basically shut the door on outgassing and flakes.
Why the quartz matters
We don’t use standard quartz. It’s just not clean enough. At high temperatures, the cheap stuff can leach impurities, and if those hit your wafers, you’re looking at a lot of wasted material. Instead, we use synthetic high-purity quartz. These lamps use shortwave infrared radiation, which is great because the energy goes straight into the substrate. It doesn’t heat up the air around it, so your cleanroom stays at a steady, comfortable temperature.
The deal with the wiring
Here’s the thing about wiring: PVC or silicone just can’t hack it in high-heat zones. Once they hit their limit, they start off-gassing volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Not exactly what you want in a vacuum chamber. That’s why we use PTFE (Teflon) jackets. It’s chemically inert. It doesn’t melt, it doesn’t flake, and it doesn’t care about the intense heat coming off the quartz tube. You get a rock-solid electrical connection that stays quiet and clean.
A few things to keep in mind
Now, nothing is perfect. There are some trade-offs. PTFE is a bit stiffer than silicone. You can’t just bend it into a tight corner or you’ll stress the wire. You’ll need to give your cables a bit more breathing room—a wider bend radius. Plus, because these lamps put out so much heat, you’ve got to get your cooling manifolds right. If the ends of the lamp get too hot, the seals can fail. It doesn’t matter how good the wire is if the seal gives out. We designed these to be simple drop-in replacements for your current heaters. We focused on purity first, because in your world, that’s what actually matters.
