
Why We Use Explosion-Proof Quartz in Wet Zones
If you’re putting infrared heating in a shower or anywhere with high humidity, you’ve probably thought about water leaks. But there’s something way more dangerous you need to worry about: thermal shock. Imagine a quartz tube heated to a few hundred degrees. Now imagine a splash of cold water hitting it. With standard glass, that’s a recipe for a disaster. It doesn’t just crack—it shatters. That’s why we stick with explosion-proof quartz. It’s built differently. We tweak the purity of the material and the thickness of the walls so it can handle those wild temperature swings without flinching. And if the worst happens and a tube does break? The design keeps the glass contained. You won’t have shards flying across the room. Then there’s the electricity side of things. We use IP65 sealing, which is just a fancy way of saying the housing is tight. No dust gets in, and water jets can’t force their way through. We seal the sockets and wiring entries tight because moisture loves to bridge terminals. If that happens, you get arcing. And arcing is a quick way to fry your controllers or trip every breaker in the house. One quick tip: check your wiring gauge. These high-wattage lamps pull a lot of current. Use wires that can actually handle the load, or you’ll find your cables overheating before the lamp even gets warm. A few things to keep in mind during install. Radiant heat is amazing. It’s instant. It feels way better than waiting for air to warm up. But because it’s so intense, you have to be smart about where you mount it. Keep it away from flammable plastics. Give it some breathing room or throw in a heat shield so the housing doesn’t warp over time. Also, don’t skip the gaskets. If you don’t maintain that IP65 seal, the humidity will eat your internals alive within a year.
